A class action lawsuit alleged that the Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA) failed to implement reasonable cybersecurity measures, resulting in a data breach on July 6, 2024, that allegedly compromised the sensitive personal information of its members. Plaintiffs claimed this alleged negligence exposed affected individuals to an increased risk of fraud and identity theft. PSEA has not admitted any wrongdoing but has agreed to pay $2.5 million to resolve these claims.
Eligible class members may receive one of the following benefits: (1) Up to $5,000 in reimbursement for documented out-of-pocket expenses incurred as a result of the alleged data breach — such as costs related to fraud monitoring, identity theft remediation, or unauthorized charges — provided you submit supporting documentation such as receipts, bank statements, bills, or invoices; or (2) an estimated $50 cash payout if you do not have documentation of out-of-pocket losses. Additionally, all eligible class members may receive two years of free credit monitoring services, regardless of which payout option they select. Actual payout amounts may vary depending on the number of valid claims submitted and the final distribution of the settlement fund.
